Omicron Gamma Omega Chapter has modeled its core community service events and programs after Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s International Program focusing on Launching New Dimensions of Service℠.

Target I – Educational Enrichment

AKA-Education_ivy-sym_smaller Between 2014 – 2018, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® signature youth enrichment program is ASCEND℠. ASCEND℠ will focus on Achievement, Self-Awareness, Communication, Engagement, Networking and Developmental Skills. Omicron Gamma Omega will work with area high school students and provide academic enrichment, career exploration, college exploration, cultural exposure, and life skills training.
Omicron Gamma Omega will support the One Million Backpacks℠ initiative where we will donate and distribute backpacks and related school supplies to Glen Burnie area students.Support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) will be a priority as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® launches a national campaign,Think HBCU℠ to highlight HBCUs and their contribution to the sorority and society. Omicron Gamma Omega will showcase HBCUs to area middle and high school students through our annual HBCU Tour. Projected activities for 2016 include:

Target II – Health Promotion

AKA-Health_ivy-sym_smaller Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will promote health awareness in three areas: Alzheimer’s Disease, Stroke and Mental Illness. The Alzheimer’s Disease and Caregiver Support Program generates awareness and support for Alzheimer’s programming and research. Stroke and Heart Disease Awareness focuses on a major stroke prevention awareness campaign emphasizing hypertension management, diet and exercise.
Omicron Gamma Omega will bring attention to mental illness for diverse populations with low utilization of mental health services. Projected activities for 2016 include:

      • Pink Goes Red – Zumba Event
      • The Longest Day Alzheimer’s Support Activities
      • Mental Health Awareness Day
      • Participation in Monthly Health Walk


Target III – Family Strengthening

AKA-Family_ivy-sym_smaller Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Family Strengthening Program targets critical issues facing many families, including lack of food, shelter and financial means. Omicron Gamma Omega will support community based Childhood Hunger Initiatives and will partner with local agencies, food banks and community pantries. Omicron Gamma Omega will sponsor the Family Seasonal Wraps℠ program to promote the collection and donation of hats, gloves, socks, scarves, coats, sweaters, and other seasonal wraps for families in need. Fiscal Responsibility Programs focus on increasing families’ understanding of budgeting, basic financial planning and benefits of home ownership.
Projected activities for 2016 include:

      • Homeless Resource Day
      • Financial Literacy Workshop
      • Sarah’s House Family Fun Day
      • Seasonal Wraps
      • Feed the Homeless
      • Childhood Hunger Awareness Day

Target IV – Environmental Ownership

AKA-Environment_ivy-sym_smaller Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Omicron Gamma Omega Chapter will implement high impact programs to provide healthy environments and improve the quality of life in underserved communities. The 1908 Playground Project SM will be launched to ensure children have safe and inviting places to play. Sorority members will restore and renew 1,908 existing community and school playgrounds with its Restore, Refresh and Renew Project℠. The Acts of Green Program℠ encourages recycling, litter prevention, and waste management through daily green efforts in local communities. Projected activities for 2016 include:

      • Homes for Habitat
      • Recycle Day/Earth Day
      • 1908 Playground Mobilization Day

Target V – Global Impact

AKA-Global_ivy-sym-REV_smaller The UNA-USA Global Classrooms Project will prepare today’s youth for an increasingly global and complex society. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will work in partnership with the UNA-USA (United Nations Association) to expand understanding of the UN, its mission and focus.A biennial Intergenerational Model U.N. Conference will be convened.Through its renewed Africare partnership, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will implement youth hunger initiatives on the continent of Africa.
Projected activities for 2016 include:

  • Africare Donation
  • Sponsored Bus trip to the United Nations in New York

Signature Programs

Ivy Girls

This signature program provides cultural, community and academic activities to former contestants of the OGO Little Miss Ivy Pageant, a biennial contest. The chapter collaborates with the former contestants until they graduate from high school to promote academic and community/social enrichment .

Black Family Picnic

The chapter hosts a black family picnic each year and invites guests who continue to support the mission and goals of Omicron Gamma Omega.


Omicron Gamma Omega provides scholarships to Anne Arundel County high school seniors. Scholarships are based on scholastic performance, community involvement, and financial need.
